General Rough Blank Specifications
These are the specifications that Wood Processing will use to make panels.
Panel length +1"/-0" of finished size
Panel width Not to exceed 1/2" over rough width for specified width panels (allowing for edge defects)
Panel/stave end slip +/- .25" this is total slippage, not each stave.
Panel stave thickness Use thickness gauges to ensure material is thick enough to machine cleanly.
Minimum stave width
  • Premium panels; 2.375" no more than 2 per panel, and not placed side by side
  • Standard panels; 2.375", no more than 4 per panel, and not placed side by side
  • Natural grade panels; 1.5", no more than 4 per panel, and not placed side by side
  • Character grade panels, 1.0", and can have unlimited amounts
  • Paint grades and basswood, 1.0" and can have unlimited amounts
  • Knotty grades; 1.5", no more than 4 per panel (except knotty pine will be same as standard)
  • Rustic grades; 1.5", no more than 4 per panel
Bow/warp .063" per lineal foot, in either direction
Planer thickness

+/- .015"

Squareness +/- 1/32" per lineal foot, all corners
Color matching
  • Premium grade panels; matched per skit zero rule except cherry will be skip one
  • Standard grade panels; matched per skip on rule except cherry and hard maple will be skip two, and hickory will be color 'blended'
  • Natural, character and knotty grade panels don't have to be color matched, except red oak natural will be skip two
  • Paint grade doesn't have to be color matched
Grain matching Grain patterns only have to be "blended", not matched
Stile/rail thickness + 0.010"/-.00"
Stile/rail width +/- .010"
Gluing specs
  • For stile/rail material, anything up to 4.5" finished width must be solid. Over 4.5" may be glued
  • For assembled face frames, anything over 3.0" finished width may be glued
  • For random length S4S/face frame material, anything over 6.0" finished width will be glued
  • This may also be dependent on the species***
  • For drawer fronts, anything over 6.062" finished width will be glued. Less than 6.0" finished width will be a solid piece

General Machined Component Part Specifications
Specifications the door and face frame departments will use in building finished products.
Arch rail off set from center +/- .063" measured at ends
Component thickness +/- .015"
Component width +/- .015"
Component length, door stiles +/- .015"
Component length, door rails, face frame

+/- .015"

Component warp/bow +/- .031", measured at the center of the component
Component profile height

+/- .015"

Component groove depth, door stiles and rails +/- .005"
Component groove width, door stiles and rails

+/- .005"

Component groove depth, face frame parts +/- .007"
Component groove width, face frame parts +/- .005"
Component squareness (per lf) +/- 1/32" measured per lineal foot, Not across the corners
Panel thickness

+/- .010"

Panel width +/- .031"
Panel length +/- .031"
Panel squareness

+/- .031" If panel squareness exceeds specifications, procedure will be to frame samples into doors. If panel centering in door spec is met, the panels are a 'go'. If panel centering spec isn't met, panels are a 'no-go'.

Panel profile height +/- .010"
Panel profile length +/- .031"
Panel corner blend +/- 5 degrees
Door size, width, length +/- 1/32" for single panel doors. Multiple panel doors will be +/- 1/32 per panel.
Mitre gap
  • Max of .010", measured with feeler gauge, and allowed only on inside of mitre
  • No gaps allowed on outside part of joint. No puttying allowed on these gaps.

Notes:

  • Parts are assured of meeting machine tolerance related specifications from time of shipment until 5 days after being received.
  • Mitre joint gaps are assured of meeting tolerance levels at time of shipment
  • Components include door stiles and rails, face frame parts, and moulding, unless otherwise specifically stated.
  • Panels include all glued parts such as door insert panels, drawer fronts, square panels and drawer box parts.
  • All tolerances are based off of target dimensions.
